To level up consistently in MapleStory Classic World and defeat rare enemies for loot, your ability to deal sufficient damage is key, and your weapon is the primary source of that damage.
Furthermore, you can boost your weapon’s damage output by using various enhancement item, such as the scrolls. While you can apply these to other gear slots as well, using them on your weapon yields the greatest return in terms of damage.
With this in mind, IGGM has identified a highly effective, accessible option for boosting damage: blue scrolls, which boast a 100% success rate.
Below, we’ll dive into how these scrolls work and how you can farm them efficiently.

Why are blue scrolls recommended?
Although blue scrolls are the most common (lowest rarity) in the game, they also carry the least risk. In contrast, the rarest Chaos-tier (gray) scrolls carry the risk of permanently destroying your gear.
Admittedly, the downside is that blue scrolls offer smaller bonuses compared to higher-tier scrolls. However, especially in the early game, it is often better to secure small, reliable gains rather than taking unnecessary risks.
That said, for certain classes, red scrolls, which have a 60% success rate, are also worth considering. These types of scrolls are relatively affordable, and a successful enhancement can yield a more significant boost.
Of course, this approach comes with risk; a high failure rate could ultimately force you to use even more scrolls. Still, it remains a viable alternative.
How to obtain weapon scrolls?
You may already know that you can acquire MSCW scrolls through player-to-player trading or the crafting system, though those methods generally apply only to armor. For weapon scrolls, you must unlock them from NPC vendors.
While many players are familiar with the vendor located in Kerning City sewers, there is a lesser-known vendor named El Moth, found at The Tree That Grew III on Victoria Road.

El Moth sells 100% success-rate scrolls for every weapon type in the game. To find him, head to Ellinia on Victoria Island, travel to the top-left corner of the map, and climb the trees; you will find him on the right side.
If you are new to the game, especially given the current poor state of the in-game economy, it’s best to buy MapleStory mesos to unlock the scrolls you need, as even the lowest-tier scrolls need 30,000 mesos.
However, the market may fluctuate following the game’s official launch, potentially lowering the cost of these scrolls. If you aren’t in a rush, it might be worth waiting.
Choosing scrolls based on weapon and class
The cost to unlock a scroll varies by type, which in turn determines which weapons it can be applied to. Generally, scrolls for popular weapons and classes in MapleStory Classic World command higher needs.
Therefore, before making any scroll-related trades, IGGM recommends researching the current market trends for your specific class and its corresponding weapons, rather than simply copying the upgrade strategies used by other classes.
For instance, if you are playing a less common Warrior class, your weapon options might include one-handed swords, one-handed maces, two-handed swords, and two-handed maces.
Among these, a blue scroll for a one-handed sword needs 30,000 mesos to unlock and provides a +1 attack bonus. In short, the effects of a scroll depend entirely on the type of weapon it is designed for.
The best time to upgrade weapons
Whether MS Classic World weapons are worth upgrading depends on the highest-tier gear currently available in the game.
At present, some classes are limited to Level 40 weapons. As new content is released and the level cap for the crafting system increases, the game may eventually introduce weapons with caps of Level 50 or higher.
This means that if you consume a large amount of MapleStory Classic World mesos to upgrade a weapon that will soon be replaced, you won’t get much long-term use out of it, effectively wasting your resources.
Beyond the weapon’s level cap, your character’s level is also a crucial factor. Investing too heavily in low-level gear during the early stages of the game often means those items will lose their value as your character levels up.
Generally, before your character in MapleStory Classic World reaches level 30, it is best to focus on accumulating resources.
Since you will probably be replacing your gear frequently during this phase, there is, barring any exceptional circumstances, no need to invest many scrolls into low-level weapons.
Once you unlock your second job, your skill set and farming capabilities will begin to stabilize, making it easier to determine whether your current weapon is sufficient for your needs.
At this stage, you can start keeping an eye on weapon scrolls, though there is no immediate rush to acquire them.
If you can still defeat monsters quickly with your current weapon, continue saving your MSCW mesos; only consider enhancing your gear when your damage output becomes insufficient and begins to slow down your leveling progress.
The benefits of using scrolls to increase damage
When you enhance your weapon to deal more damage, the most immediate and noticeable effect is a reduction in the number of hits required to defeat a monster.
This hit threshold, the number of attacks needed to take down a single enemy, can drop significantly with the right enhancements. For instance, reaching a specific damage threshold might reduce the required hits from three to two, or even fewer.
Reducing the number of hits shortens the time used in combat with each monster, which in turn boosts your efficiency in farming XP and loot, allowing you to level up faster.
If your class relies primarily on skills to farm monsters, fewer hits also mean lower mana consumption. This reduces the frequency with which you need to restock potions, saving you the mesos you would otherwise invest on them.
We hope this guide helps you further develop your character in MS Classic World! Now, grab your weapon and keep pushing forward!
